My Background

Kathrina Skaar's music background is extensive having taught in public schools, higher education institutions, and privately. Her public school teaching licenses included Band K-12, Vocal Music, and Classroom Music 5-12. Her teachers in piano included professional artists, John Nordquist and Esther Howe. Some of her conducting teachers included John P. Paynter, Charles Olson, Craig Kirchhoff, Mallory Thompson, and H. Robert Reynolds. Over the years, Ms. Skaar has taught at the University of Minnesota, Bethel University, Crown College, and throughout the Twin Cities suburbs, including public and private Christian Schools in the area.

I offer private lessons, in person and on-line formats, teaching various skill levels, for piano, and some other instruments depending on availability. If you have questions, we can discuss what is the best fit for you or your young musician.

With over 30 years of teaching experience, Ms. Skaar has taught music in many educational settings. As a college professor, she taught young adults to become music teachers, as they studied to became strong effective leaders. Ms. Skaar taught several courses at the college level, including: Advanced Conducting, Wind Ensemble, Instrumental Methods, Introduction to Music Education, Elementary Education Methods, Secondary Education Methods, Voice, Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion Techniques, and private piano and instrumental lessons.

My Classes

I offer private lessons with in-person and on-line formats, teaching various skill levels, for piano, and some other instruments depending on availability. If you have questions, we can discuss what would be the best fit for you or your young budding musician.

Instruction Fees

Monthly fees begin at $160/$200 per month for a 30-minute lesson once a week (whether 4 or 5 lessons occur in a month). Students 5-7 years old either take a 30-minute or 45-minute lesson once per week, while most students ages 8 years and up choose either the 45-minute or 60-minute option.
